Behind Brazil and Colombia, Indonesia is the third country in the world with the greatest diversity of fauna and flora and is one of the 17 mega diverse countries, according to The UN Environment Program World Conservation Monitoring Center (UNEP-WCMC).

If you are under the impression that the only interesting activity you can do during your visit to Indonesia is just diving, then you have something new to learn about this enchanting place. Indonesia is a natural paradise with an infinite number of resources, offering numerous and varied activities for adventurous nature lovers, on land as well as in the water.

Raja Ampat, a heaven inside the paradise

One area in particular, Raja Ampat, is the goldmine of Indonesia. It is situated in the Coral Triangle and has a unique landscape and a surprising geological history. Over the years, the tectonic plates have collided, displaced and extended. This has created a unique landscape, formed by limestone islands which makes exploring this area a true diverse wonder.

If you are a nature lover and wish to experience some of the culture and history that surrounds Raja Ampat, then let Biodiversity Nature Resort take you on a Nature Marathon. With us you will discover this beautiful paradise during your next visit to Indonesia.

Trekking and snorkeling

Once you start your visit to Indonesia, after arriving to Raja Ampat, you will begin your marathon with an excursion through our Island of Gam and its surroundings.

This one-day tour includes a visit to Kabui Bay with its crystal clear waters and beautiful karst cliffs. Also, to Urai Island, which is one of the epicenters of coral diversity for snorkeling. Here you can take advantage of the refreshing blue waters after sinking your toes into its sandy beaches.

You will then head off through The Passage, a channel that separates Waigeo and Gam, where you can visit the pearl farm (a large area where pearls are grown). Next up is the island of Airborek and the opportunity to walk around the village after some wonderful snorkeling.

Finally you will pass through the Dampier Straight, where you can see the majestic manta rays. We are sure that you will love this tour as it has a little bit of everything.

Kayaking Raja Ampat

With more than 1,500 islands, islets and cays, kayaking through and around them is a unique and adventurous way to see this intriguing landscape. You will navigate its clear waters. And its unexplored coasts will offer you spectacular views that you cannot see anywhere else in the world.

At Biodiversity Nature Resort we have two areas you can explore by kayak. To the right we have Batu Lima and Kabui Bay and to the left we have a secret inlet near Yenbeser village, which will take you through breathtaking landscape and an abundance of bird life can also be seen.

You can also kayak to the villages just next to the resort to add a culture experience to your kayak.

Birdwatching

This area has more than 578 species of breeding birds, of which 324 species being endemic. At Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort we organize jungle treks, with local guides, to see the Red Bird of Paradise as well as the Wilson bird of paradise.

The jungle treks take you into the heart of diversity were many other species of birds and insects can also be spotted, while on your way to the birds of paradise. It is a bird lover’s paradise, and what better way to see them, than in their natural habitat.

If you are a diver you have found the treasure, because you will be exploring one of the most impressive reefs on the planet, the Coral Triangle.

Biodiversity Nature Resort is situated in the Dampier Straight, giving you access to the top sites in this area.
