Update on Official Fees in Raja Ampat: Marine Park Permit and Visitor Entry Ticket

Marine Park Permit and Visitor Entry Ticket raja ampat

In 2025, the Raja Ampat government officially updated the mandatory fees that every visitor must pay to enter and enjoy this protected archipelago — one of the world’s most biodiverse marine destinations. Unlike in previous years, there are now two distinct fees, each managed by a different government department and serving a specific purpose.

1. Marine Park Entry Permit

The Marine Park Entry Permit, also known as the Environmental Service Fee or marine entry card, is an environmental levy required by the park authority. This fee is intended to fund conservation, monitoring, and protection of the marine ecosystem within Raja Ampat’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

  • International visitors: IDR 700,000.
  • Indonesian citizens:  IDR 425,000
  • Validity: 12 months from the date of issue
  • Required for: all visitors entering the marine protected areas

This permit can be purchased online prior to arrival or in person upon arrival in Waisai at the Marine Park Authority office.

More details in the official website.

2. Visitor Entry Ticket

In addition to the environmental permit, the Visitor Entry Ticket is a separate levy managed by the Tourism Office of the Raja Ampat Regency Government. It is intended to support and maintain local tourism infrastructure, including ports, information centers, and essential visitor services.

  • International visitors: approximately IDR 1,000,000
  • Domestic visitors:  IDR 300,000
  • Validity: usually per visit (re-entry requires a new fee)

This ticket is typically purchased at Waisai Port before continuing to the islands or upon arrival.

More details in the official website.

Why Were These Fees Updated?

The increases and formalization of these levies aim to strengthen environmental protection within the Marine Park and improve the visitor experience by funding patrols against illegal fishing, trail maintenance, waste management, and basic services at tourist sites.

Practical Tips for Visitors

  • Always carry proof of payment for both permits; rangers conduct regular checks.
  • Arranging the Marine Park Permit online in advance can save time upon arrival.
  • The Visitor Entry Ticket is usually paid on arrival at Waisai; check if your tour operator can handle it for you.
