Diving in Raja Ampat from a Homestay: Stay Local, Dive Professionally
Want to experience Raja Ampat on a smaller budget without compromising on professional diving and safety?
You don’t have to choose between staying in a simple local homestay and diving with a professional dive centre.
Raja Ampat is home to many family-run homestays offering simple and affordable accommodation. Staying with a local family is a great way to experience the destination from a more local perspective while contributing directly to the communities that call these islands home. You can find more information about staying in comfortable accommodation in Raja Ampat through our beach cottages.
And when it comes to diving, you can still choose a professional dive centre with experienced guides, small groups and established safety procedures.
At Raja Ampat Biodiversity Dive Centre, we offer exactly that.
Stay local. Dive professionally.
For many independent travellers, staying at a homestay is the perfect way to keep accommodation costs under control while experiencing a more authentic side of Raja Ampat.
But choosing a budget accommodation does not mean that you have to compromise when it comes to diving.
Our dive centre is an SSI-certified dive centre (Store No. 741071), and safety is an essential part of how we operate. We dive according to the experience and level of each diver, provide site briefings before dives and use professionally maintained diving equipment.
Our compressors are maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, including regular filter changes and air-quality monitoring.
For us, professional diving is about much more than taking you to a beautiful reef. It is about having the right equipment, experienced professionals, appropriate planning and procedures in place before entering the water.

Small groups, personal attention
Diving in Raja Ampat is extraordinary — but the way you experience it makes a difference.
We keep our diving groups small, creating a more relaxed experience and allowing our guides to give closer attention to each diver.
Before every dive, our guides brief the group on the dive site and relevant conditions. Dive sites are selected according to the experience and level of the divers, because Raja Ampat offers diving opportunities for beginners, intermediate and experienced divers alike. You can discover more about the different dive sites in Raja Ampat available to explore.
The result is a diving experience that feels personal rather than mass-market.
Small groups. Experienced guides. Professional equipment. Thoughtful dive planning.

Dive in the heart of the Dampier Strait
Our dive centre is located on Gam Island, in the Dampier Strait, close to many of Raja Ampat’s most famous dive sites.
This central location means that many sites can be reached efficiently by boat, giving you more time to enjoy the underwater world and less time spent travelling.
We use fast and comfortable speedboats for our diving trips. For sites that are further away, we organise full-day diving excursions, allowing you to explore more distant areas when sea conditions and logistics make this the best option.

A different way to experience Raja Ampat
You don’t need to stay in a dive resort to enjoy professional diving.
You can stay with a local family, experience the hospitality of a Raja Ampat homestay and contribute directly to the local economy — while diving with a professional SSI dive centre.
This can be an especially attractive option for independent travellers and divers who want to manage their accommodation budget while still placing importance on professional diving standards and safety.
If you are staying close to us in Yenanas Beach or the surrounding area of Gam Island, our location can also make your diving logistics easier. Two homestays are located on the same beach, within walking distance of our dive centre.

Build your diving around your trip
Not every diver wants the same experience.
Some people want to dive every morning. Others want to combine diving with island excursions, birdwatching, relaxing or exploring Raja Ampat at a slower pace.
That’s why we can tailor your diving according to your interests, experience and schedule.
Our diving options include:
* Small-group guided dives
* Experienced English-speaking dive guides
* Flexible dive packages
* Fast and comfortable speedboats
* Full diving equipment rental
* Diving at nearby sites
* Full-day excursions to more distant sites

You can choose your accommodation independently and simply arrange your dives with us.
