Discover Scuba Diving – Try A Dive!

Discover Scuba Diving - Try Scuba Diving SSI

Discover Scuba Diving Experience (DSD)

Time to give SCUBA Diving to Try? Were you ever curious how it feels to breathe underwater? If you want to try but do not have the time or money to invest in a full course, jump right into a Discover Scuba Diving Experience!

One of our diving instructors will start with some theory that covers basic information about diving in general and Raja Ampat in particular. After that, you will practice a few skills, before heading out for a real dive in the open water (maximum depth of 10-12m). It will be an amazing experience for you and you will be surrounded by stunning corals, colorful fish and exotic marine life!

This experience takes between two and three hours. With this experience you do not get a certification card, nor are you qualified for diving. The Discover Sucba Diving experience is the first part of the Open Water Diver Course. So you just need to carry on from there. The skills you learned will be credited towards a portion of the full Open Water Diver Course certification. We will deduct the price of the Discover Scuba Diving Experience from your Open Water Diver Course.

Open Water Diver Course

Learn Something You’ll Enjoy for the Rest of Your Life! Get Certified! Take Scuba lessons with PADI or SSI. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. Would you like to start diving in Raja Ampat? Why not? You will never forget it!

With this program, you will receive certification that will allow you to dive without a guide – though with a dive buddy – to a maximum depth of 18m. The course consists of three main parts:

  1. Knowledge Development: (online e-learning option – or here with us) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  2. Confined Water Dives (two dives) to learn basic personal safety scuba skills
  3. Open Water Dives (four dives) to review your skills and explore
  4. Complete an easy final exam

This license allows you to enjoy a depth of up to 18 meters, with a buddy who is also a certified diver, all over the world.

To become an Open Water Diver you need to be at least 15 years old – but worry, you can still study to be a diver! If you’re between 10 and 14 years old can work towards Junior Open Water certification. For divers under 10, please contact the resort for other options.

You certainly need to like being in the water! To become an Open Water diver you also need to be able to float or tread water for 10 minutes without help or support from any flotation devices and to swim at least 200 meters without support from any flotation devices or if you’d rather do it in with mask, snorkel and fins, you’ll need to be able to cover 300m. If you are not able to swim but want to become a certified diver we would recommend the PADI or SSI Scuba Diver.

Please read the Medical Questionnaire carefully – it’s to find out if you should be examined by a doctor before participating diving activities. If you answer yes to one of the questions, it doesn’t mean you can’t dive – it just means that you have a pre-existing condition that may affect your safety while diving and you must seek the advice of your doctor before you take the plunge! Medical facilities are limited in Raja Ampat, so we would recommending seeking any advice you need before travel.
