Connecting with the Community: An Afternoon in Yenbeser

Biodiversity Resort team spent a warm and engaging afternoon with the children and community of Yenbeser Village, continuing our ongoing efforts to connect with and support the communities around us.

For us, being part of Raja Ampat means more than being surrounded by extraordinary nature. It also means being connected to the people who call these islands home. Their lives, traditions and future are deeply connected to the ocean and the environment around them.

Through our ongoing community and CSR activities, we create opportunities to spend time together, share knowledge and support initiatives that can have a positive impact locally.

Sharing Food, Sharing Time

The afternoon began with something simple: sharing bubur kacang hijau, a traditional mung bean porridge, with the children of Yenbeser.

Food has a wonderful way of bringing people together. What might seem like a simple bowl of warm porridge became an opportunity to sit together, talk, laugh and enjoy a few hours as a community.

For us, these moments matter. Building a genuine relationship with the communities around us starts with being present, spending time together and getting to know one another beyond the more formal side of community projects.

A Conversation About Our Ocean

The afternoon also gave us the chance to talk with the children about something that is at the heart of life in Raja Ampat: the ocean.

Through a simple and interactive conversation, we spoke about the importance of keeping the sea and beaches clean, the impact of litter and how small everyday actions can help protect the marine environment.

The message was simple: caring for the ocean is something we can all be part of.

For the children growing up in Yenbeser, the sea is part of everyday life. It surrounds their homes, supports their communities and will continue to play an important role in their future. Helping younger generations understand this connection is one small way of encouraging curiosity, awareness and a sense of responsibility for the place they call home.

Small Moments, Lasting Connections

Activities like this may be simple, but they give us something valuable: time together.

Sharing food, talking about the ocean and simply spending an afternoon with the children creates opportunities to learn from one another and build stronger connections over time. We believe that community work is not only about providing support, but also about showing up, listening and creating relationships that can grow naturally.

The afternoon in Yenbeser was filled with smiles, conversations and shared moments. It reminded us that positive change does not always have to begin with something big. Sometimes, it starts with a conversation, a shared meal or a few hours spent together.

At Biodiversity Resort, we are grateful to be able to contribute to the communities around us and to keep developing these initiatives over time. With the support of our guests, whose stay with us helps make these programmes possible, we can continue creating opportunities to share, learn and support the people and places that make Raja Ampat so special.

For us, this is part of what it means to be here: not simply visiting Raja Ampat, but being part of it.

Our village visits and community activities offer another way to connect with the people and culture of the islands while discovering a different side of Raja Ampat.
